What is therapy?
Talking to a therapist will provide you with a better understanding of your emotions, thoughts, feelings, life challenges and relationships, it will enable you to cope, adjust and overcome difficulties, those which may be hindering your overall personal growth.
Attending therapy sessions takes courage. At times you may feel that your therapy session has offered you a sense of emotional relief, at other times you may feel like it was a hard session, all these feelings are normal. You should set therapeutic goals, be actively engaged in sessions, be open to change, and be willing to work on yourself between sessions.
For therapy to be effective, it is also important to establish a good, trustful and respectful therapeutic relationship with your therapist. You need to feel comfortable in the therapeutic space, be fully honest and open about yourself and what is troubling you. Therapy is about you, your therapist is there to listen, to help you gain insight to your own answers and assist you through a supportive therapeutic journey.
